First Lessons

FIRST LESSON

Things you will need for your first lesson:
  • music stand for practice at home.
  • a properly sized instrument and bow.
  • for violin or viola, you will need a shoulder rest - the Kun fits most people very well and is adjustable.
  • rosin: Piastro GoldFlex rosin is my favorite
  • a pencil
  • a thin cotton cloth to wipe down your strings after you play and clean your instrument
  • music books as assigned (we will tailor your program according to your inclinations and progress)
  • composition notebook for lessons

Henry Bischofberger Violins is a great place to rent your instrument in Kirkland!
Shar Music is a wonderful online resource for purchasing music, accessories and more for great prices!

Our first lesson will be all about getting to know each other and the instrument. We'll discuss goals and previous musical experience. If you have prior experience on your instrument, you can play a piece or two that you feel comfortable with and show me any materials you've previously played and studied including solos, technique books and scale work. This will allow me to assess your proficiency and develop an individualized direction of study.
