Schedule and Policies

NEW students, please contact me to find out my available times. I teach in my Totem Lake studio on Saturdays and Mondays.
Missed Lesson Policy and Make-up Lessons:
My teaching schedule is full, and as a result, the availability of make-up lessons is limited. Please make every attempt to attend at your normal lesson time. Where this is not possible, here is my missed lesson policy.
♪ There are no make-ups for lessons missed or cancelled on the day of the lesson. Make-ups are only possible, but not guaranteed (due to limited space), when I am contacted at least 24 hours before a scheduled lesson. Remember, you are paying for a lesson time, not the lesson itself.
♪ If you are unable to attend your normal masterclass time, you are encouraged to come to another masterclass that week as I am unable to make up missed masterclass lessons. Contact me for an alternate time.
♪ Your monthly tuition is always the same, regardless if a private or masterclass lesson is missed.
My intention is to have a missed-lesson policy that is simple and easy to administer, and one that honors the value of my time in that if someone fails to show up for their lesson, the same portion of my day is still spent preparing and waiting for their scheduled arrival, and thus deserves the normal compensation. Also, that portion of my schedule is contracted out to that individual in lieu of other students.
A few reminders for students:
I believe that asking my students to meet a high level of responsibility, respect and accountability is one of the most supportive and caring things I can do as their teacher. I desire to make learning not only a fun, but a richly rewarding experience. An environment of mutual responsibility is essential to our success together. I feel that my responsibility is to provide the conditions and structures necessary for success and enjoyment, while the student shares in the responsibility of contributing to the creation of an optimum learning environment. Ways to show this:
♬ Attendance - be consistent, on time and have your instrument ready to play for your lesson. Call as soon as possible to notify a missed lesson or need for rescheduling. Please note: I am unable to give extra lesson time to students who arrive late.
Preparation - bring all music and materials neatly organized and easily locatable in your music bag, have your practice chart completely filled out before each lesson, purchase all suggested material as soon as possible and check the calender at the end of Masterclass week for the coming month and read studio news/notes and dates on the website.   Practice - practice with a view towards musical goals rather than fulfilling a time requirement. Quality is always more valuable than quantity. Be prepared to show your best work each week at your lesson. Filling in your practice chart accurately helps us to refine your assignments and improve communication regarding expectations. An occasional off-week is completely understandable, but a student showing a pattern of poor practice or attitude is best referred to a different teacher who might be better suited for them.
♬ When you arrive for your lesson, if you hear playing, please quietly come right in without knocking and have a seat in the studio. While you are waiting, please take out your instrument and get your music ready so you can begin immediately.
♬ During masterclasses, your behavior affects everyone else’s performance and experience. Please be respectful of your peers by being on time, having a positive attitude and being a respectful listener during performances and classwork.
♬ Please call/email and leave a message as soon as you know you are going to miss a lesson.
